Jane Phillips

Jane Phillips bought her first camera in college and fell in love with the process of stopping time with an image. She earned a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and went on to enjoy a thriving career as a photojournalist and fine art photographer.

Her award-winning work has been published in a range of magazines, books and newspapers including The New York Times, New York Newsday and The New York Post. She was a staff photographer for The Santa Fe New Mexican for two decades. She has worked for both the Maine and Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. Her photographs have been exhibited in New York City, Maine, Santa Fe, and South Africa.

Based in Santa Fe, Phillips was one of forty international photographers chosen for the Fence Project national exhibition, Rites of Passage. Her portraits were commissioned for a fundraiser for the Photo Archives at the Palace of the Governors. Her work on Indigenous Artisans of South Africa was exhibited in a solo show at the New Mexico State Land office, at the New Mexico State Capitol Building gallery, and at the Mpumlanga Traditional Art Market in South Africa.

In addition to her general freelancing work, Phillips has been meeting and documenting centenarians. As always, looking for the story that led to the moment of the image, she explores with her subjects what living through a century of history looks like.

She has also launched “Wags to Whiskers”, pet portraits with personality, where she works to captures unique images of our four-legged family members.
